Southport and Ormskirk Agricultural Show

The show was on ground belonging to the East Lancashire Railway, the now unused station set apart for the flowers and vegetables, the ground beyond for stock, poultry and implements.

Upwards of 6,000 people arrived by railway.

The ground was fitted by Mr Thomas STANLEY, Builder

There were 77 entries for implements

Messers PICKSLEY, SIMS and Co, Bedford Foundry Leigh, received medals for chaff cutting machines and turnip slicers

Messers STARKEY and BRIGGS of Liverpool, exhibited machines for washing, wringing and mangling all kinds of linen.

Mr Peter FAULKNER of Newburgh, received medals for a two horse plough, lever scarifier or drill grubber.

Messers PICKUP and BUCHANAN, Bankhall Foundry of Liverpool, silver medal for a 4hp portable high pressure engine, attached to an uptight boiler, requiring no brick works or settings, capable of being fixed on wheels and fitted to shafts.

Solomon PERKIN of Sheffield showed a cistern containing a water filter in action

John PAYNE, Ducie St, Royal Exchange, Manchester showed a self adjusting, washing wringer and mangling amchine.

THORNLEY’S food for cattle occupied a stall

Richard CHANDLER and NORTON of Liverpool exhibited instruments

Mr CLARKE won 1st prize and had 20 implements. CLARKE, CHANDLER and NORTON, 62 South John St, Liverpool

Mr ROSBOTHAM’S Thrashing machine was exhibited in operation

Richard OWEN, Ironfounder, Ormskirk, showed one horizontal steam engine.
