Two transport ships lost

Letters reached Lloyds yesterday of the loss of the BURMAH [English] transport No 85 and the INTREPID, Capt PORTER on the French coast.

The BURMAH, H.M Consul at Cherborg reported she had gone ashore on the 12th ult, on the French coast between Blainville and Regneville, and is expected to become a total wreck, the crew are all saved.

The INTREPID, Capt PORTER, which sailed on the 5th of last month lost off the same coast on the 16th, Captain and 4 crew perished.

Loss of transport steamer

Varna, March 20th, The General Steam Navigation Co’s paddle-steamer EDINBURGH, MORRIS of London, in the service of the French Government as a transport was wrecked on the 15th inst on a sunken rock, off Cape Kaliaker on the European coast during a dense fog. Soon afterwards she parted in two and went down four and a half fathoms, crew and troops escaped in their boats. Two vessels she had in tow went to pieces. The EDINBURGH steamer was originally built for the German Navy. Capt MORRIS has proceeded to Lloyd’s agent at Constantinople for assistance to enable him to raise the engines out of the wreck.
