A silver clasp and £4 to River PC10, William PEGLER for having gallantly jumped into the river and rescued a boy who had fallen from the lower deck of the Prince's Stage on the 6th inst, during an ebb tide and rough sea. Thomas SLATER, a printer, had previously attempted a rescue by reaching towards the boy and overbalanced and fell into the river, saving himself by laying hold of a mooring rope attached to one of the river gigs. PEGLER swam out and reached SLATER'S collar pulling him in to the Landing-stage, This is the 8th rescue for which PEGLER has been awarded by the committee besides awards and other rescues before he entered the force.

Silver medal and vote of thanks to Sgt James CRAGG of the Rochdale Fire Police, for having at 2am on the 19th Aug last with great risk and difficulty in three successful attempts rescued two boys from a burning house in Drake St, Rochdale and a dog which had drawn the sgt's attention to one of the boys who had been rendered insensible by the smoke, but being itself nearly suffocated, was unable to follow the brave rescuer out of the house.

Silver medal, framed certificate of thanks and 20s for repair of his watch, to PC337 Thomas WILLIAMS, who, while in plain clothes and off duty on the night of the 13th inst, gallantly jumped from the Prince's Landing Stage into the Mersey and rescued a woman who had accidentally passed on the wrong side of the steamer's gangway and walked into the river.

Silver medal to PC1?9 Thomas Williams GROVER, for having dived into the Lodge Lane Bath on the 21st ult and rescued a youth who had sank to the bottom and was apparently drowned, but by the use of artificial respiration, after getting the body out of the water GROVER had the great satisfaction of bringing the youth back to life.

Silver Fire medal, with thanks and 20s, to PC60 F, Thomas ELLIOTT and similar awards each to salvage men Edward REESE and Joseph DEAN for the rescue of three women from a house fire in Bispham St, on the 6th inst. These brave men ran considerable risk from the density of the smoke, and made several attempts before they succeeded in bringing the poor women [who were in an unconscious state] to a place of safety. PC60 took part in the rescue of the three women, and the salvage men in the rescue of two women. Similar awards were made to PC119 F, Frederick E. HARRISON, and PC132 F John S. COOPER for assisting to rescue the third woman.

20s to PC 132 B, Joseph COLQUHOUN, for having extinguished the flame on a woman's dress a little after midnight on the 29th ult, and afterwards having gone into her house in Clifton St , which was on fire and rescued her husband who was nearly suffocated by the smoke.

20s to PC 199 C, Albert REED, for having gone down into the Salthouse Dock by the means of a rope on the night of the 19th inst and having made a rope fast to a man who had accidentally fallen into the dock.

A silver medal vote of thanks and 20s each to PC 124 D, David LAWSON and PC 206 D, Charles SHEPHERDSON for having rescued three women and a man from a room which was on fire in Burlington St on the night of the 17th inst, all of whom were severely burned and were rescued at considerable personal risk, as the place was full of smoke at the time. 10s was also voted to John ROWLANDS who assisted the constables and rescued an infant only three days old from the fire.

A silver medal and vote of thanks, and 20s to PC 200 A, Samuel MOFFAT, for having at 2am on the 19th inst rescued an elderly woman from being burned to death at a shop in Whitechapel. The constable burst into the door of the shop and went in but was driven back by the fire and smoke. He then applied a handkerchief to his mouth, and at personal risk rushed a second time into the shop, succeeding in rescuing the occupier, who was the only person on the premises.

A vote of thanks to Harry ROLT, chief officer of the Salvage Association for his services at the fire in Bispham St on the 6th ult, when three women were rescued by the combined efforts of the Police and Salvage Corps.

Framed certificate of thanks and 20s to PC 132 B, Joseph COLQUHOUN, for having on the 29th Nov last extinguished the flames on a woman's dress and rescued her husband from suffocation in the burning house, 33 Clifton St.

Silver medals and testimonials presented yesterday by Admiral GOUGH on behalf of the LSHS, to PC 124 D, David LAWSON and PC 206 D, Charles W. SHEPPERDSON, for rescuing three women and a man from a house in Burlington St in which fire broke out on the 17th ult, and in which service they behaved with great bravery at imminent risk to their lives. PC LAWSON was also presented with a bronze medal from the Quiver Office. Amongst the present H. H. HORNBY chairman of the Watch Committee, members of the committee and officials with the police force.

Silver fire medal with vote of thanks to PC 125 B, Charles A. CHURCHILL, for having rescued a woman from the roof of a house which was on fire in Elizabeth St, early on the morning of the 28th ult. The officer from a back street perceived that the house was on fire, and that the woman who, was partly dressed, had got onto the roof from a garret window. He promptly threw off his coat and climbed up a waterspout on to the roof, whence he lowered the woman on to the roof of a lower building and then procured a ladder, by which he descended. Considerable damage was done before the fire was extinguished.

Awards were made to PC 104 F, Andrew WILLIAMSON and PC 267 D, Walter HODSON, each having previously received the society's silver medal for saving life from fire. It appeared on the night of the 1st ult a fire broke out in a house in Great Howard St, which burned with great fierceness. Knowing two children were in the house the officers placed ladders against window, but the room being all ablaze they were unable to enter until the fire was partly subdued. The two officers then at great personal risk entered the room and found the two children and brought them down to the street, when, the doctor in charge of the horse-ambulance pronounced life extinct. The fire was not extinguished till the house was gutted. The committee awarded to each of the police constables a silver clasp for his medal, with a vote of thanks and 20s. and informed them [as well as PC125 B] that their awards would be forwarded to the watch committee.

GRANT and Eli BROOKES, Head Constable Capt Nott BOWER, Mr SPERRIN, chief clerk of the Head Constable's office.

Yesterday at the Fire Station, Hatton Garden, the RHS, Silver medal and certificate were presented by, Mr H. H. HORNBY, chairman of the Watch Committee, to Sgt John S. DIXON a member of the Fire Brigade, for his bravery in rescuing a comrade from the hold of the steamer Falarian which was on fire in No1 branch of the Huskisson Dock on the morning of the 2nd Dec last. Sgt DIXON went down into the hold at the peril of his life, and brought up a fireman who had become unconscious from the dense volume of smoke. Among those present a large number of the police force, Councillor WATTS, Francis HENDERSON of the LSHS, Mr SAMPSON, secretary, Chief Supt's HASSAL and IRVINE, Supt's WILLIS and BAGGES and several Inspectors, Head Constable Capt Nott BOWER. Mr HENDERSON also presented PC 315A Thomas OLIVER with his award as above.

Silver medal and vote of thanks to Inspector of Police, Daniel DAVIES, for having with great promptitude rescued an elderly woman from the 3rd storey of a warehouse on fire in Henry St on the evening of the 15th inst. The poor woman was standing at a window from which dense smoke was issuing, and realising her instant peril she was about to jump into the street when the inspector shouted to her to wait a moment while he went for a ladder, which, being close at hand was placed at the window and the inspector went up it and succeeded in bring the down in his arms.

A silver fire medal and vote of thanks to Nelson DUDLEY, clerk, for having rescued three children from a house in Carolina St, Bootle on the early morning of the 12th inst. He burst the kitchen door and endeavoured to get to the children who were in the front room on the next storey, but after making two attempts he was driven back by the dense smoke. He procured a ladder, and by it ascended to the bedroom window, where the children were found almost suffocated by the smoke. He brought them to the window and with the help of Robert MACKARELL [who had followed him up the ladder] succeeded in rescuing the children. 20s was awarded to Robert MACKARELL for his able assistance un effecting the rescue.

Bronze medal and 10s to PC 205 A, Daniel GAWNE, for having made a brave attempt to stop a runaway horse, dragging a heavy loaded cart at great speed in Norton St, and Islington on the 8th inst. The PC grasped the horse by the reins, but slipped and fell, the wheel of the cart passing over his thighs injuring him.

Bronze medal and 10s to PC 137 A, Andrew KELLY, for having stopped a runaway horse in Dale St on the 23rd inst. The horse was dashing along at a furious rate when the harness broke, and the PC, having seized it by the head, was dragged along with it for some distance and was nearly run over.

Silver medal and 10s to PC 391 Richard RENCH, County Police, for having a little after midnight on the 8th inst jumped into the lake at Sefton Park and rescued a man who was drowning. The man struggled with the PC who after great exertion succeeded in dragging him out of the water, when, he became unconscious and appeared to be dead. The PC then used means to restore animation, and in about quarter of an hour the man showed signs of life. [Presentation made 1st Dec 1894, County Magistrates Court by Sir W. B. FORWOOD]

20s, repair of a watch and vote of thanks to PC 31 C, George ROBERTSON, for having gone down by a rope into the Canning Dock, on the night of the 8th inst, to hold up a woman who had fallen overboard from a flat, until further assistance was rendered.

Silver [special] medal vote of thanks and 10s to PC 80 A, Michael COLLINS, for having with great promptitude and courage stooped a horse attached to a float, which having taken fright was running down Leece St at a furious gallop. The horse was a powerful animal and the PC ran great risk in stopping it.

Silver [special] medal vote of thanks and 10s to PC 21, John WYLIE, Bootle Police, for having at considerable risk and sustaining personal injury, stopped a horse which had run away with a van and was proceeding with great speed to Stanley Rd. The constable with great courage seized the reins, but missed his footing and was dragged for some distance until the horse and van were thrown over. He was off duty a week from his injuries, and his uniform was torn to pieces.

20s and a vote of thanks each to PC 150 A, David JONES and Joseph GRIFFITHS, who at some risk stopped a horse which had run away with a cab down Pembroke Place, London Rd, and Lime St, on the 31st ult, but not before they had been dragged about 50yds by the terrified animal.

20s to PC 35, WOODS, [Bootle] for having on the night of the 4th inst promptly entered a house which was on fire from a gas explosion, and extinguished the flames on a woman whose clothes were on fire, and afterwards brought downstairs two children who were in danger. 7s-6d each to James D. McMURRAY and Daniel DOUGHERTY each of whom brought out a child through the dense smoke of the burning house.

10s to PC 55 E, Michael MULHALL, for having gone into the canal near Sandhills Lane and rescued a man who while in drink had attempted to drown himself on the 11th inst.

Silver medal and 10s, to PC 200 D, Thomas WOODWARD, for having at considerable risk stopped a runaway horse with a heavy laden cart in Athol St on the 31st Oct last.

20s and vote of thanks each to Sylvester LOCKE, labourer, Edward CODLING, a youth and PC 535, FOWLER, [County police] also 10s to a boy named James STARKEY, for their exertions to save life at a pond near Garston, when a girl was drowned through the ice breaking on the 5th inst and a boy was rescued. CODLING and STARKEY went to their assistance and also fell in. LOCKE jumped in after them and got the boy out. FOWLER broke through the ice and waded out with a small boat, and by the means of a boathook got the girl out, but she was then dead.

Silver medal vote of thanks and 10s, to PC 142 A, Joseph W. LYTHGOE, for having at considerable risk, stopped a runaway horse which was galloping down William Brown St, dragging a float laden with mineral-water bottles on the 1st inst. The driver was thrown out and a portion of the harness broke , which caused the horse to take fright. The officer seized the horse by its head and was dragged of his feet, but succeeded in turning the horse towards Manchester St when one of the wheels came in contact with a guard post, breaking the axle and wrecking the float.

Silver medal to PC 214 A, Charles BARKER, and a silver clasp and vote of thanks each to Police Sergeant Thomas ELLIOTT and PC 104 F, Andrew WILLIAMSON, and Dept Supt, James SMITH, Salvage Corps, for having rescued five of the inmates of a house fire in Warren St on the 30th ult. BARKER got a ladder, broke the window of a bedroom, got out a woman and infant and carried them down in safety. The other three rescuers forced their way through the fire and smoke, ran upstairs and saved three children who were in a semi-conscious state.

Silver medal and vote of thanks and 20s to PC 253 A, Thomas KERMODE for a brave and determined effort to rescue Peter GEORGE 2nd mate of the barquentine Enterprise who lost his life by suffocation after having rescued a shipmate who had succumbed by the fumes of a charcoal fire burning in one of the ship's tanks, while in the Prince's Dock on the 13th inst. The constable succeeded in getting GEORGE out of the tank but was too late to save his life, and when the former was got out he became unconscious for a time.

20s to cab inspector Samuel GRIFFITHS, and 10s each to Police Sergeant 29 A, Edward WILLIAMS, and PC 325 A, John JONES for having at some risk stopped a runaway horse and cab at the Central Station on the 7th inst. The three of them having been thrown down before the horse was secured

A silver medal and vote of thanks to James JENNINGS, warehouseman, for having jumped into the canal near Sandhills Lane on the 22nd inst, to rescue a man who while insane, had attempted to drown himself, and struggling violently with JENNINGS in the water thus endangered both their lives. 20s and vote of thanks each to PC 57 E, Joshua CAIN and PC 133 E, James HALL, for having jumped into the canal to assist JENNINGS. It took the united efforts of the three men, in water constantly over their depth to save the poor fellow, who continued to struggle with them for some time after he had been got out of the water.

A silver clasp to his medal, a vote of thanks and 20s to PC 137 A, for having at great risk stopped a runaway horse in Church St on the 31st ult. The constable caught hold of the reins and clung on with both hands, when his feet slipped and he fell, the horse stepping on his legs and body several times, inflicting injury, and dragging him for some distance before he brought it to a standstill.

15s and vote of thanks to PC 281 B, Thomas E. PUGH, for having gone into a house on fire in Luther St on the 2nd inst and rescued two women who were in an unconscious state from smoke when he got them out. They had a narrow escape from being suffocated and burnt

10s to PC 138 C, Mark YOUNG for having on the 13th inst stopped a runaway horse attached to a float in Wapping. The horse was galloping at a furious rate, the street was crowded with people. Finding that the reins were inside the float the officer managed after running alongside for a considerable distance to jump on the float from behind, and getting hold of the reins succeeded in pulling the animal up. His leg was injured in springing into the float.

10s and vote of thanks to PC 154 D, Peter ?, for having on the 10th ult at personal risk stopped a runaway horse with a heavy laden cart in Vauxhall Rd. The driver had been thrown from the cart and being entangled in the reins was dragged some distance along the road and under the cart.

Silver medal and vote of thanks to PC 211 B, Henry HAMER, for having at great risk seized hold of the reins of a horse which was on a car galloping furiously down Everton Rd, on the night of the 25th ult. The driver who was drunk had been thrown off and was seriously injured. The constable while holding on to the reins, was knocked down by a passing cab and run over, receiving injuries from which he has not yet recovered. 10s and vote of thanks to PC 279, Joseph YATES, for finally having stopped the horse after his comrade was injured.

Silver general medal and vote of thanks to PC 149 E, Samuel ALLEN, for having, while proceeding home off duty, on the night of the 30th ult, stopped a horse on a coal cart, which had bolted without a driver and was running at the top of its speed in Florence St. While clinging to the reins the constable was knocked down, the wheel of the cart passed over his body, inflicting injury from which he has not yet recovered. 10s and vote of thanks to PC 274 E, Robert BA??? who came to ALLEN'S assistance and finally stopped the horse with some difficulty.

Silver fire medal and vote of thanks each to Insp Edwin WALSH and PC 158 B, Frederick W. BAXTER, 20s and a vote of thanks each to PC 68 B, George C. CHESTER and PC 260 B, Charles H. ROBINSON. 30s to William CRITCHLEY, labourer for saving life at a house fire in Lowndes St on the early morning of the 24th ult. PC 158 first went up the burning staircase and rescued three children, but in coming down with them he tripped and fell to the bottom receiving injury. PC 68 B, then picked up the children who were found to be severely burned, and conveyed them to a neighbour's house. William CRITCHLEY then went upstairs and rescued a bay, but when coming down again he was overcome with smoke and both his hands were burned. Insp WALSH then took CRITCHLEY and the baby in his arms and carried them to safety. PC 260 then went up the stairs and rescued a boy who was in a helpless condition from the smoke, then went up and rescued the mother of the children.

Silver general medal and vote of thanks to PC 181 B, William FORBES, for having at considerable risk, and with some injury, stopped a runaway pony and trap, in Hope St and Hardman St on the 1st inst. He was thrown down and dragged for some distance before the pony was stopped.

Silver general medal and vote of thanks to PC 231 C, Matthias MILRAY for having stopped a pair of horses attached to a waggonette which took fright and bolted from Griffiths St into Berry St on the 25th ult, and were stopped by the PC at considerable personal risk.

Awards made for courage and humanity in saving life :- a silver medal vote of thanks and 2 guineas to Pole Sgt 7 C, John BRYANS, a silver medal vote of thanks PC 282 C, Irving McVITE, and vote of thanks to Mr Joseph HEYWOOD for their gallant conduct on the early morning of the 16th April in rescuing the inmates, a woman and five children, of 112 Park Rd, which was on fire. The service was peculiarly meritorious, inasmuch as the floor of the room from which the four children were taken was in flames, and one leg of the bed had gone through it. Both Sgt BRYANS, who was rendered unconscious and PC McVITE behaved like heros. The horse was eventually brought to a standstill in George's Dock gates by Peter GUNN and William TAYLOR, to whom 20s each was awarded.

Silver medal, vote of thanks and 20s, to PC 106 D, John Joseph McARDLE, for gallantly plunging into the Wellington Dock at midnight on March 30th to rescue a man who had fallen in, whom he succeeding in reaching, but it being very dark and there being no steps on this side of the dock, it was only after swimming for some time that he fortunately struck a mooring chain, to which he clung with his insensible burden until succour arrived.

Silver medal, vote of thanks and 20s, to PC 352 C, Alfred HIGNETT, for the gallant rescue of a woman who attempted suicide in the Salthouse Dock on March 25th. On hearing a splash the officer ran to the spot, and seeing the object floating, blew his whistle, and at once plunged into the water. The woman struggled violently, but, a lifebuoy being thrown, he grasped it and held up until a boat came, which landed both on the quay.

Silver medal, vote of thanks and 20s, to PC 112 G, Hugh GRIFFITHS, for a plucky attempt to stop a runaway horse attached to a dog cart in Warbreck-moor, Aintree on March 29th, when he was thrown down the wheels passing over both legs.
