Funeral of Colonel ARDEN

The Bishop of Liverpool, Dr A. A. DAVID, today conducted the funeral service of his legal secretary Colonel T. H. ARDEN, of Crescent Rd, Birkdale at Liverpool Cathedral, before interment at Allerton Cemetery.

Colonel ARDEN, who was 74, was Registrar of the Diocese of Liverpool and joint Registrar of the Archdeaconries of Liverpool and Warrington. He was formerly commander of the Lancashire and Cheshire Heavy Regiment, R.A. and T. A. His son Lieut Colonel E. C. ARDEN, T.D, succeeding him. Among the private mourners were his son Lieut Colonel E. C. ARDEN and his fiancee, Miss L. CRAWFORD, Mr T. Arden THOROUGHGOOD [nephew] Mr R. FARMER, Senior Registrar of the Diocese and Mr W. H. Funeral of Home Guard

Six Home Guard sergeants acted as pall bearers, while sis Home Guard privates carried the coffin draped in the Union Jack, at the funeral at Allerton Cemetery, today of Mr John BRADSHAW, aged 61, private in the Liverpool H.G, Battalion.

Mr BRADSHAW who served in the last war and lived in Rathbone Rd, Wavertree, died suddenly while parading with the Liverpool H.G, men during the H.G celebrations last Sunday, Mr BRADSHAW had been with the engineering section of Messers Bibby and Co, Liverpool for 40 years.

Lieut Colonel J. R. GREENBANK, battalion commander attended the funeral. The “Last post” and the “Reveille” were sounded by one of the oldest H.G sergeants in the battalion. Canon A. L. J. SHIELDS, Chaplain to H.M. Forces conducted the service.

These are some of the names which adorn the simple wooden crosses on the graves of 10 fighting French soldiers, sailors and airmen who have died during the war.

Today at Allerton Cemetery a delegation of the Franco British Liason Committee paid tribute to the men. The delegation headed by Free French soldiers, sailors and airmen, was acting on behalf of the Commission du Souvenir, under the orders of Admiral Thierry d Argenlieu. The service was conducted by M. F. DEAGE and the Rev Father Meurisse of the Free French Forces.
